Red Bartsia
Picture of Red Bartsia

Red Bartsia - Odontites verna
Time to see - July  - September.
Height - 30cm -100cm
One of these plants was recently noticed in the Reserve, but no doubt, on further inspection, many more will be found.

Like the Yellow Rattle, it is parasitic on grass, taking nutruients from the grass plant that it is attached to.

A rather drab looking plant, the flowers all align in one direstion, and their drab appearance is due to the many fine hairs that cover the flowers.
