Cornflower

Cornflower - Centaurea cyanus
Time to see - July.
Height - 30 cm
A vivid blue flower that appeared in the reserve in July 2010, in disturbed soil near the pond. It used to be common on waste ground and as its name says in corn-fields.

It could have arrived courtesy of a bird, or could have lain deep in the soil for years, and then started into growth when the soil was disturbed and it was brought nearer the surface.
