Speckled Wood - Pararge aegeria.
Flight time - April to September
Wingspan - 45mm
A butterfly that is to be seen from April to September, sometimes in the Reserve, or in shady woodland walks.

It overwinters as a crysalis or caterpillar, and eggs are laid and hatched during the summer months.
The cateriller feeds on grasses, whilst the adults feed on honeydew up in the tree tops.

The adult can often be seen sunbathing, as in the photograph, allowing you to inspect it, unless you get too close, when it will move.
