Diving Beetle - Acilius sulcatus
Size - 15- 20mm long

This is quite a large diving beetle, which was first seen in the pond in May 2010.

There are many diving beetles in the family Dyisidae, watch out for the Great Diving Beetle, which may appear in the pond.

Diving beetles lay eggs in early spring which hatch into larvae, growing up to 2 inches long,(50mm), they then crawl onto land to pupate in the ground, becoming the adult beetle after 2 weeks.
